Completion year 2009
Constructed in the mid 1800’s, this historic hotel building was the subject of 2 stages of refurbishment and expansion. WGE’s structural, electrical and mechanical engineers provided design and construction phase consultancy for a range of areas including new alfresco to the main bar, bistro and dining area, kiosk bar and commercial kitchen. Services upgrade was also required within the guest and staff accommodations and new ventilation within the Governor’s Residence bathrooms and kitchen.
WGE assisted to overcome the challenges of working in a heritage listed building, providing new extensions to complement the existing structure and facility. The island location also dictated certain aspects of the project such as readily build-able design, capable of being transported by barge and assembled on Rottnest. Careful design consideration was needed to provide for the exposed conditions, with all materials and services being properly weatherproofed.
