The Epworth Richmond has been a key provider of health care in inner city Melbourne for many years. The redevelopment of the Epworth Richmond site will reinforce their reputation as a leader in their field, setting a new benchmark for private healthcare provision by integrating a state of the art new facility with existing facilities.
Achieving the delicate balance of staging the development to allow the facility to remain in operation throughout construction has been a challenge for the project team.
Through careful negotiation with the fire brigade, upgrade and consolidation of the existing fire infrastructure was strategically timed to remove any requirement for redundant work, saving significant time and cost for the client.
A significant and often overlooked challenge is how people move throughout a new building, particularly when it is integrated within an existing facility.
Working closely with the architects, Silver Thomas Hanley, WGE were able to challenge the people movement strategy and location of various functions within the existing and new buildings to provide a vertical transportation solution that minimises significant changes to the existing lifts whilst maximising efficiency of the final lifting arrangement.
With the first stage underway and a further three stages to come, WGE are excited to be part of this development that will further improve the level of healthcare delivery in Melbourne.
