WGE’s Melbourne-based Telecomms & ICT team have been recognised for their work at St John of God Hospital, Berwick. At the South Pacific round of the BICSI Awards, the team received the excellence award for infrastructure installation on a major project over $250k. BICSI is the global industry body representing ICT infrastructure professionals and their awards program is aimed at demonstrating the experience, knowledge and professionalism of members.
The hospital is a five-storey development including 202 beds, six operating theatres, two endoscopy theatres and six birthing suites. The WGE team designed the telecommunications network for the hospital to support equipment including workstations, IP telephones, wireless access points and integrated messaging engine. The team also provided engineering operational control systems for security access control, lighting, lifts and specialised theatre equipment.
The network incorporates virtual routing and forwarding technology and is designed as an N+1 core deployment where the failure of any single core element will not cause disruption to the rest of the network. This consideration is vital to ensure continuity of hospital operations.
Telecomms and ICT Section Manager, Lawrence McKenna said the team worked together to achieve an outstanding result.
“This achievement is testament to the innovative and collaborative approach of our entire team and we’re looking forward to seeing the hospital open to patients in 2018,” he said.
WGE’s Alejandra Riano accepted the award on behalf of the team.
