The City of Wanneroo presides over the most rapidly developing area in Australia and it is here, in Perth’s northern suburbs, that AMP Capital have invested $85million to extend the Ocean Keys Shopping Centre. The extension of the shopping centre provides an additional 13000m² of retail space, parking for 1600 cars in a triple storey car parking structure, as well as a three storey residential housing block.
Working closely with Taylor Robinson, the project architects, WGE’s structural and civil teams were asked to assist in the transformation of the centre. The new centre boasts modern lines that complement the new bold shapes and uses exciting and different construction materials throughout the development. Exposed steelwork with concrete infill panels, profile machine cut timber boarding panels and imported mall tiles with high level diffused lighting are just some of the materials that create the feeling of space as you wonder through the new malls.
Facing the challenge of keeping the centre open during the works Insight Project Services, the project managers, worked closely with the project team to stage the works and limit the damage to the car parking numbers, the life blood of any shopping centre.
