The Coles Distribution Centre in Perth, located near the Perth International Airport, is a significant building of 82,000m² of net lettable area. To put this into perspective, it can fit three full size Australian Rules football ovals inside it!
The building was constructed as part of the Coles Group’s national rollout of their Food & Liquor Supply Chain Transformation Program.
The distribution centre is a critical link in the supply chain for the Coles Group in supplying goods to many of its retail stores across the state. The uninterrupted operation of the facility is essential to the overall operation for Coles.
The site is located close to road, rail and air transport so as to maintain an efficient operation and ensure swift transport of necessary goods.
The distribution centre facility has a range of different space uses, including:
- Ambient Warehouse Chamber: 49,000m²
- Chilled Warehouse Chamber: 17,000m²
- Freezer Chamber: 7,500m²
- Administration Office: 3,500m²
- Satellite Offices (2 off): 1,200m² and 1,600m² .
Use of the main areas within the facility requires small vehicle traffic to handle and transport goods, hence all aspects of the design needed to facilitate the unimpeded movement of small vehicles within.
